Mika Stoltzman
(formerly Mika Yoshida)
met Steve Gadd in 2005 at PASIC.
Since then, they have become
great friends and worked on
various projects together. After
playing live shows in JAPAN and
NYC, Mika released a live DVD
and studio album.
Steve produced Mika's CDs,
Mikarimba, Marika Groove,
& If You Believe. *Also available:
Mika's live DVD with
Steve from 2009,
Marimba Madness.
"I listened and watched
Caravan and Spain on
your Marimba Madness
DVD. Excellent! I like
the rhythm phrase you
played on Caravan - and
your improvising is very
spirited! My congratulations.
I will listen more later."

Marika Groove
for Mika in 2012:
Mika released another
collaboration with Steve
in 2013; If You Believe:
"The Japanese-born, New
York-based Stoltzman isn't
necessarily a jazz artist,
as she's pitched her tent in
various musical camps over
the years, but she's one hell
of a musician regardless
of the stylistic tag(s) thrust
upon her. Stoltzman made a
name for herself in minimalist
circles by appearing on
Steve Reich: Triple Quartet
(Nonesuch, 2001), and she
turned some heads in the
classical world by working
with her husband
—clarinet icon
Richard Stoltzman—
but none of that defines her.
Mika Stoltzman is beyond
category, to use Duke Ellington's
signature compliment,
and she proves it here."
